Not worth it

I would like to strongly show my anger and dismay for the way my comments about the Vatican Instruction on the admission of homosexual persons to the seminary were presented (Malta Today, December, 4).
It was simply a malicious exercise in manipulation and distortion. Picking up some sentences from what I have written and inserting them in a tsunami of negative and biased comments does not make a journalistic report.
Please, do not try to defend your action by saying that your staff has showed me the sentences written by me and which he was going to publish. He did exactly that, and without giving me the whole context in which he was going to insert them.
Justice is only done to me and to your readers, if you publish entirely what I have been asked to contribute. Otherwise it is not worth it to contribute.

Anton Gouder
Rabat

Editorial note: As Fr Gouder correctly states, his comments, which had to be edited to suit the newspaper’s exigencies due to their length, were communicated to him. Whether he believes the report to be a “tsunami of negative and biased comments” is a subjective observation – MaltaToday presented a well-balanced overview of the Vatican’s instruction, collating different views on the matter. To that extent, Fr Gouder is indeed entitled, as head of the Archbishop’s Seminary, to take the initiative and communicate his version of the Vatican’s instruction in any way he deems fit and intelligible to the general public, who will certainly appreciate knowing more.
