Ellul Bonici secures MLP women’s EU relations post

Sharon Ellul Bonici has been elected official EU relations officer for the Malta Labour Party’s female section. A former personal secretary to MEP John Attard Montalto, Ellul Bonici is today no longer employed with the Party of European Socialists but works closely with the Independence-Democracy group led by eurosceptic Jens-Peter Bonde. The new post was contested by Ellul Bonici and Lorna Vassallo.
A former PR consultant, Ellul Bonici was at the forefront of the campaign against EU membership within the Campaign for National Independence, and later on the NO2EU group she formed in the run-up to the 2003 referendum. She failed to make it through Labour’s preliminary elections for candidates in the European Parliament elections when she missed the 70 per cent threshold by just five votes.
