Drop in voters at Labour conference

The election for the Malta Labour Party’s executive has not indicated any great moves and shakes other than a drop in voters from 842 votes to 770 since last year.
It is unclear whether there was a slight drop in support for the faction of deputy leader Michael Falzon. The one candidate who serves as the litmus test for the Michael Falzon faction is Nathalie Attard, who had her showing drop slightly from 59.6 per cent in 2005 to 51.1 per cent in 2006.
Former executive member Wenzu Mintoff, seen to be an Alfred Sant man, did not contest this time round for reasons unknown to his closest of friends. New members on the executive include Glenn Bedingfield, who although closer to Michael Falzon is reported to have taken votes from both the Falzon and Sant factions.
Nettu Farrugia, also considered to be close to Alfred Sant, had his share rise from 44 per cent to 52 per cent, and this time was elected. A clear disappointment is Charlon Gouder who failed to get re-elected despite his high profile on Super One, dropping his vote share from 56 per cent to 50 per cent.
