Gozo Channel apologises for weekend breakdown

Michaela Muscat

Gozo Channel yesterday apologised in comments to MaltaToday, for the disastrous service offered at the commencement of carnival weekend, an important happening for Gozo’s ailing business.
Chairman Joe Borg was apologetic for the sorry state of affairs but he was adamant that ultimately, the weather defined the outcome of events. “The ferries were damaged on Wednesday evening and under normal conditions they would have been repaired quickly, but the strong winds made it close to impossible for the cranes to operate properly.”
When asked about contingency plans in case of the rather too frequent calamities that Gozo boats tend to experience, Borg retorted that Gozo Channel had to make do with what they had and that it was impossible to obtain a boat at such short notice. “I am very sorry for what happened,” Borg said. Gozo Channel’s justifications are however unlikely to suffice for its clientele who endured long hours in the queue.
