I refer to Mr Karl Schembri’s article ‘Former rector chained by Curia’s wall of silence’ of 26 February 2006. When Archbishop Mercieca came to Qormi four years ago, to bless the first stone of the new Pastoral Centre in our parish, he promised me personally that he was to take care of Fr Balzan’s case. Four years passed, and he did nothing. I myself went with a group of lay people from Qormi to talk to Fr Lucjan Borg, Augustinian provincial, who told us that Fr Balzan needs our help. We continued to help Fr Balzan as much as we could.
We also talked to Fr Charles Cordina, who at that time was the Archbishop’s Delegate of the Clergy. He told us to be quiet, as time passes this case will be forgotten.
We are very disappointed how the local Curia deals with priests. I hope that things will change with the appointment of the new Archbishop.

With reference to the article of MaltaToday, 26 February 2006, entitled ‘Former rector chained by Curia’s wall of silence’, I would like to ask His Grace the Archbishop, if he ever talked to Fr Lucjan Borg, Augustinian Provincial, about Fr Balzan’s situation, after the decree was issued by the Holy See. It seems that from these two parts, that Fr Lucjan did continue to help Fr Balzan after sanctions were made on him by Archbishop.
I would also ask Fr Charles Cordina, former Delegate to Archbishop for the clergy, what is his opinion about this case, because surely he was personally involved.

With reference to the article on MaltaToday, 26 February 2006, I wish to strongly opine that urgent action be executed by the local Curia with regards to such inhuman anachronism and a reverse to Christian beliefs. As a doctor and Christian I feel myself at a crossroads with regards to what I listen at my church and to what I see outside my church. I feel that the church is losing its godly identity!

Reference is made to the article ‘Former rector chained by Curia’s wall of silence’ of 26 February 2006. I am a mother of two youths. Several times they ask me about Fr Balzan, because they used to hear his mass, and then all of a sudden they saw him hearing mass with the rest of the congregation. I could not explain this situation, because I myself, and other parents, do not know what happened, but at the same time, we feel sorry for Fr Balzan. Reading the article we understood what the case is all about. Waiting for a solution.

Karl Schembri’s article ‘Former rector chained by Curia’s wall of silence’ dated 26 February 2006, raises several questions, about the Archbishop’s relations with local priests. I was saddened to read that such situations are to be found in our local Church. It seems that there is no dialogue between priests and bishop. Curious is the fact that there was no reaction form the Curia. Does the Vatican know about the suffering which local priests pass through because of these decisions?

Referring to the article ‘Former rector chained by Curia’s wall of silence’ dated 26 February 2006, I would like to correct the misprint made by the press as regards to my surname ‘Victoria Carina’ to ‘Victoria Caruana’. I confirm all that was written in the article of Karl Schembri, about Fr Balzan’s experience, during the last four years since my family are helping this priest, because we are concerned about his present situation. Is it justice that Fr Balzan is suffering because of the Archbishop’s pride and stubbornness.

With reference to Karl Schembri’s article, ‘Former rector chained by Curia’s wall of silence’, dated 26 February 2006, I would like to make my comments. We are almost tired praying for vocations. How come priests are being treated like this? Is this the humane way the Archbishop Mercieca deals with priests? How come such a case like Fr Balzan’s and other’s are not being tackled, but put aside?
