In defence of Chetcuti

Reference is made to your back page article of 12 March 2006. I found this article petty in the extreme and indicative of a subversive fundamentalist streak against anything to do with hunters.
William Chetcuti is one of the very few unsung heroes of contemporary Malta. Whereas complete nobodies do everything possible to achieve fame, publicity and recognition, William Chetcuti is a person who shuns publicity and whose humility stands out.
He is a true Gold Medallist Champion who holds his own against the very best in the world, in skeet shooting. On his own.
I buy and read your paper because it mostly coincides with my perception of what is fair and often picks on people (perceived as untouchable) who really deserve to be picked upon.
William Chetcuti does not fall in that category. Leave him alone.

Editorial Note: The news story pitched a legitimate question as to whether Maltese athletes should also set a good example to everyone else, a premise which was fully acknowledged by the Malta Olympic Committee’s secretary in his comments to MaltaToday.
