Malta link in eBay’s illegal transactions

A Palermo carabinieri investigation busted a network of illegal transactions in the sale of archaeological treasures on the e-Bay auction website, which traced an exchange from Malta to as far as the USA and Australia.
Operation Archeoweb saw the seizure of 8,853 items and the identification of 25 accused involved in the various web transactions, along with the cooperation of the eBay’s Italian operators.
A spokesperson for the Parlermo branch of the carabinieri told MaltaToday no arrests had been made. No contacts have been made with the Malta police.
The internet auction website has been the site of a series of illegal trades in antiquities, some of which included police investigations in Malta on the account of traders based on the island.
