MaltaToday has launched a libel fund and has called on its readers and the general public to support the fund. The management of the newspaper said MaltaToday operated on the principle of the reader’s right to know and MaltaToday’s right to tell. On Wednesday the Appeals court raised a Lm250 fine awarded to former Labour Prime Minister Dom Mintoff against MaltaToday, by Lm2,000. The fine is the second in a matter of weeks. Weeks before the same Appeals court reconfirmed a record Lm4,000 libel fine to former Labour junior minister Louis Buhagiar.
