Arson attacks continue

The recent string of arson attacks continued in the early hours of Good Friday when the Civil Protection were called in to douse the flames in two separate incidents that occurred in Siggiewi and Qormi.
In Siggiewi fire destroyed the garage and front door of a private residence, while in the second attack that happened some four hours later a car burst into flames in Qormi, damaging an adjacent vehicle and scorching the façade of residences in the street.
In both incidents nobody was injured.
The two incidents came soon after the arson attack on Tuesday perpetrated against the private residence of Dr Katrine Camilleri, who works for the Jesuit Refugee Service.
Police sources on Friday were, however, ruling out the possibility that the fires in Siggiewi and Qormi had any racial motive as was possibly the case involving Dr Camilleri.
The arson attack on Dr Camilleri’s residence occurred almost one month after vehicles belonging to the Jesuits were torched on the school grounds at St Aloysius College. An author, who had spoken out against racism also had the front door of his residence burnt down just before the St Aloysius attack.
Police investigations in all cases are ongoing but as yet nobody has been brought to book.
