Many Maltese must feel elated, following the news that Prof Arnold Cassola, secretary-general of the European Green Party, has been elected to the Italian Parliament on the Unione del Centro Sinistra ticket.
I, for one, firmly believe that Prof Cassola has achieved that which should have been meritoriously his in Malta’s first-ever European Parliamentary elections held locally on May 1, 2004.
Fellow Maltese – excluding, perhaps, those who, notwithstanding their so-called social-democratic credentials, were outrageously and vehemently against Arnold exercising his right as a Maltese citizen to vote in the last elections – must feel proud of Prof Cassola and hasten to wish him all success in this innovative and highly challenging Italo-Maltese venture and, why not, in all future Maltese electoral campaigns on behalf of Malta's no-nonsense electorate.
Indeed, green is beautiful!
