I refer to the article “The water surcharge rip-off” of April 16 by Vince Farrugia, Director General of the GRTU.
In his article your correspondent stated that he believes that there is some sort of monumental rip-off being orchestrated by the WSC – to the tune of some Lm5 million liri annually.
It is very surprising that Mr Farrugia put pen to paper on such subject mater, considering that as director general of the GRTU has attended all presentations carried out by this ministry at the MCESD and was involved in all discussions relating to the subject matter, and therefore is well aware that all surcharge levied on water consumption is passed on directly to the Enemalta Corporation.
Again for the benefit of the general public the following should again be clarified:
- All surcharges levied by the on water consumption are passed on to the Enemalta Corporation,
- On its part Enemalta does not levy a surcharge on all the electricity consumed by the WSC.
Therefore, the introduction of the surcharge has not affected the WSC’s financial situation in any way. In monetary terms the levying of the surcharge is neutral to the WSC. Considering the above, the alleged “rip-off” exists only in Mr Farrugia’s imagination.
At this stage one seriously queries Mr Farrugia’s real intentions and true agenda.
