Santa Venera mayor replies

I refer to the story that was published on MaltaToday on 30 April under the title “Former St Venera mayor resigns from council”, which unfortunately does not reflect the real reasons behind the resignation of the former Santa Venera mayor.
I start by categorically denying the allegation that I was calling council meetings at times when he could not attend. To prove this I am sending you a motion he had proposed on 13 September 2005 and which was approved unanimously. The irony is that against all expectations, despite the consensus among all councillors, the former mayor attended only for 40 per cent of meetings, six out of 15 meetings.
The apathy was clear since the start of the legislature, when the former mayor never showed any interest to integrate himself in the new council led by me. I can confirm that when he was offered to choose a subcommittee from four, he refused all offers. There were also several social activities organised which he never attended. He also failed to attend any of the consultation meetings we organised with residents.
The reasons behind his resignation may be many but I believe the main reason was that he never accepted the fact that the Santa Venera council is now under my hands after 11 years in his hands.

Stephen Sultana
Mayor of Santa Venera
