Mr Mario Calleja, Mayor of Marsaskala had his parting shot last Sunday. This is mine. He insists on misrepresenting the facts. The agenda presented by the Assocjazzjoni tal-Hwienet u Ristoranti of Marsaskala consisted of two parts: a discussion about tables, skips, gaming machines, and “waqt il-laqgha ser inkomplu serje ta’ stediniet; ghal din il-laqgha ser ikun mistieden Dr Josie Muscat” (“during this meeting a series of invitees will follow; for this meeting Dr Josie Muscat will be invited”). As I have already stated, only ideas as to how to attract more tourists to Marsaskala were discussed, which incidentally, was also my brief in the Council. If the Mayor insists on a different interpretation that is his concern not mine. I am only responsible to the people of Marsaskala and nobody else.
Mr Calleja also chose to close the correspondence by being personal. I have nothing to be ashamed of where my personal and family life is concerned, and the same applies to my medical and political careers in the past and in the present. I have no doubt that Mr Calleja will claim the same.
