The Malta Hotels and Restaurants Association (MHRA) together with the Hotel and Catering International Management Association (HCIMA) Malta have agreed to cooperate in areas of training, human resources development, and continuous learning practices and programmes, so that there is more effective opportunities to those working or studying for a career in the tourism industry.
MHRA has been established in Malta for the past fifty years and is the leading primary organization representing hoteliers as well as restauranteurs. The organization is well represented on several Governmental boards and committees including the Malta Tourism Authority as well as the MCESD. The Association’s publishes several quarterly and annual reports which give overview performance of the tourism industry and assists the industry to plan objectively.
HCIMA was established in the UK in 1971 as a result of the merger between two Professional Associations – The Hotel and Catering Institute (HCI) and the International Management Association (IMA). From 1971 to 1977 the HCIMA qualification was awarded to students who completed their Diploma in Hotel Management with the Catering School at the MCAST Polytechnic in Msida. In 1984 the HCIMA set up a chapter in Malta; this grew to an International Group and in 2004 HCIMA Malta was given more autonomy as part of the HCIMA Strategy to create more effective international groups.
