Siggiewi: a forgotten village

The village which our politicians are eager to compare with the whole of Malta when it comes to political issues is intentionally forgotten on much more fundamental problems hitting the villagers directly.
Nobody came to our rescue now that our beautiful bathing place at Ghar Lapsi was left to go to the dogs.
But worse still is the spate of crime of the first order which has infested this quiet village. Who does not remember the break-in on a poor man in St Margaret Street, the consequences of which brought about his premature demise? And more recently the villainous attack in the midst of night on another poor old couple, frightening them to death. It is known that in consequence one of the poor people recently suffered a stroke.
Is it possible that in such a close, fervently Catholic community, boasting of demigods and saints, nobody, just nobody, had the guts to raise hell about what is going on?
And then we hear about all the fuss the Da Vinci code thing had produced! Where is everybody? Does Bondì still live in Siggiewi?
Where are the Pullicinos, the Orlandos, the Musumecis, the Minister, the Gulias, the Montaltos, the Davids! Where is everybody in Siggiewi?
I feel ashamed to form part of this community. I feel helpless that I am incapable of punishing the culprits.

Anthony Borg
Siggiewi
