Truly fascinating

It was nice to read that Mr Falzon found the reactions to his column (16 July 2006) from three correspondents “gratifying”. But it was a bit over the top when he went on to complain that he was the “butt of insults”. Let us put this comment in context for readers by reminding them of the insults which Mr Falzon chose to heap on those who disagreed with him. These were: “Over-enthusiastic fundamentalists… short-sighted, pig headed eco-fundamentalists… eco-fundamentalists (whose) steadfast beliefs makes them think they know everything about anything there is to know about it, better than anybody else…People who suddenly appoint themselves as experts in every subject under the sun – from baroque studies to town and country planning… self-appointed environmentalists representing no one but themselves”.
Mr Falzon, was certainly the butt of criticism and of sarcasm, but he certainly was not “the butt of insults”. Mr Falzon still has to learn to distinguish between criticism and insult.
