I left home to go out with my car and ended up 45 minutes waiting for a chap to come and remove his leased van from the common driveway of ten garages. The police could not tow his car or issue a contravention because on the driveway, we do not have ‘garage’ written. The Birkirkara police station took more than half an hour to locate the owner of the car and than when the owner was located he was advised to come and remove the car. He just said “sorry man” and walked off.
We were advised that unless there is ‘garage’ written on the driveway, we may park as ‘we please’, and we just walk off by saying ‘sorry’. We’ve also learned that the stickers ‘Tow Zone Area’ or ‘No Parking’ are not suitable and if you need to park in front of a garage or driveway with one of these stickers you can also park as you please!
On the other hand I gave them my particulars and I had to witness that I was the owner of two of the garages in the driveway and that in them I had cars, not sofas.
There’s the law for you, love it or hate it.
