I am making reference to Karl Schembri’s contribution in last Sunday’s Maltatoday entitled “Bid to remove Karmenu Vella by merging union’s sections” and its continuation on page 9 “Principals exist only in physics, says GWU president Salv Sammut”.
May I bring to your attention that the GWU President had never in his comments hinted that the union might not accept George Abela any longer as the legal advisor for Zammit’s section, as Mr Schembri had stated in the third paragraph from last of his report.
In fact, to Mr Schembri’s question regarding Dr Abela’s involvement in the port negotiations, Salv Sammut said that “As long as the section secretary is present for negotiations to do his job and delegates want George Abela, it’s their choice.”
This answer was in fact omitted from Mr Schembri’s report, even though it was originally written in the transcript that Karl sent to our president.

Editorial note: This is the full transcript about the issue in question.
Will the union accept George Abela’s services to Emanuel Zammit’s section after attacking him in that way and the libel suits he opened against you?
“First of all he came out attacking us, what we did was to defend ourselves. As long as the section secretary is present for negotiations to do his job and delegates want George Abela, it’s their choice.
But how can you accept Abela after all that has been said between you. Will you accept him again?
“It will depend on circumstances.”
In principle would you object to Abela?
”Principles exist only in physics.”
So you’re neither saying yes nor no.
“Exactly. It depends on circumstances.” |
