Go mobile contracts Nortel for 3G

The relationship between Go Mobile and American company Nortel Networks is heading for another level as both companies agreed on Friday on the supply of a 3G network infrastructure that will see the mobile phone company entering the technological fray in direct competition with rivals Vodafone.
The agreement is reported to give go mobile a competitive edge in the provision of the latest wireless applications, including video telephony and wireless broadband.
Nortel, which does business in more than 150 countries, had provided go mobile with its current GSM 1800 and GPRS network in March 2000. Nortel also provided the 2005 upgrade in the network to Edge technology, which allowed go mobile customers to view television on their handsets at speeds higher than was customary.
The contract was signed on Friday evening at go mobile’s Head Office in Marsa by Maltacom Group CEO David Kay and Nortel Networks Sales Director for North Africa and Malta, Stephane Jordan.
The contract will see go mobile purchasing the equipment, have it installed and provide training to the company’s personnel.
