Claudette Pace turns down PN election offer

Singer and TV presenter Claudette Pace has turned down an offer by the Nationalist Party to contest the forthcoming general election.
The 38-year-old presenter was approached by Prime Minister and PN leader Lawrence Gonzi a few weeks ago asked her to contest the embattled eleventh district, where Labour is set to re-contest another popular singer, Mary Spiteri.
Contacted by MaltaToday, Claudette Pace said she was “honoured” to be asked to contest the general election, however she felt that “in the circumstances it is not the right time”.
She went on to explain that although she likes and closely follows politics, she has taken a decision that due to work and family commitments, it is very difficult for her to engage in it at this time.
Claudette Pace, known to be one of Malta’s best female singers, studied theatre, entertainment and communications. She hosted TV shows on Malta’s PBS and on the two major private TV stations, Super ONE TV and is currently presenting a daily show on Net TV.
Asked to comment about Claudette Pace’s rejected offer, PN secretary general Joe Saliba said that it is not prudent for him to comment about individuals who were approached to contest as candidates for the party.
He added that the PN will be focusing on having what he defined as a “strong presence” of women candidates for the forthcoming general election, and this in conformity with the PN’s recently amended statute, that entrenches a stronger female presence within the party structures, in politics and society.
