Tour operator Norman Hamilton has appealed to both present and prospective governments to start considering Gozo as a cruise ship port-of-call.
Speaking yesterday during a national seminar on tourism, Norman Hamilton insisted on what he defined as a “necessity” to build a 300-metre quay in Imgarr Gozo, in order to attract cruise ships to the sister island.
He explained that seven cruise ships at the Grand Harbour last Friday was a great spectacle, however, he could not understand how “nobody thought of berthing at least one ship in Gozo”.
Norman Hamilton said that some ship captains complained about the berthing space allotted to them, particularly those who were moored in Marsa.
He appealed to the authorities to keep on insisting to attract cruise operators to use the Grand Harbour as a home port.
So far only one line uses Malta as a home port, while he announced that in 2008, MSC Costa Crociere will start and finish scheduled cruises from Malta.
