Two-thirds of respondents in MaltaToday’s October survey want a government reshuffle but an absolute majority found themselves in great difficulty when asked who should exit and who should enter the Cabinet.
When asked which Nationalist backbencher or parliamentary secretary deserves a promotion to the Cabinet, respondents were at a greater loss with 71.5 per cent unable to mention a single name. Parliamentary Secretary Tonio Fenech, with 6 per cent of preferences emerges as the top contender for a ministerial post, closely followed by John Dalli and Jeffrey Pullicino Orlando.
Lawrence Gonzi has refused to exclude a reshuffle in the future but as the electoral countdown starts ticking louder, the prospect of a reshuffle is growing dimmer. But insiders have emphasised his reluctance to reshuffle.
Even Nationalist supporters would like a reshuffle to take place, with 48 per cent in agreement, only 30 per cent disagreeing.
Yet when asked which minister should be excluded from the Cabinet, respondents were at a loss with 56.9 per cent saying that they are undecided.
Tourism minister Francis Zammit Dimech emerges as the top choice sacrificial lamb with 16 per cent of preferences. Austin Gatt is the runner-up with 8 per cent of preferences.
Respondents were keener on choosing the best performing minister. Family Minister Dolores Cristina emerges as the top preference with 13 per cent of preferences, closely followed by Education Minister Louis Galea at 10 per cent.
The only minister who does not even get a single mention, is Francis Zammit Dimech.
