Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi has issued a stern warning to all the members on the newly-appointed tourism consultative committee, not to divulge any information about a 76-page report they have just presented him with this week.
However, news of the report was revealed by hotelier Winston V. Zahra in a speech he made during a national seminar on tourism organised by the Guze Ellul Mercer Foundation.
“I have information that the consultative committee has just completed a report, submitted it to the Prime Minister, and I am informed also that it contains proposals relating to strategies about the infrastructure and marketing,” he said.
Winston V. Zahra is father to Winston J. Zahra, who incidentally sits on the consultative committee that compiled and presented the report to the Prime Minister. During his address to the conference, Zahra “branded” the Malta Tourism Authority as “a big mess”.
He added his criticism by reminding those present at the conference that the MTA board is presently “defunct” as the whole board resigned following “leakages to the press” of a controversial letter to Norwegian consultant Christian Sinding.
Sinding, who created the much criticised ‘Brand Malta’ campaign, was recommended to the MTA by Winston J. Zahra.
