Police solve Vittorio Cassone murder

Cassone was killed in a hold-up in his shop in San Gwann

The police are reported to have solved a murder committed 13 years ago, in which Sicilian chef Vittorio Cassone was killed while being held up in his shop in San Gwann.
The murder dates back to 13 January 1993, when Vittorio Cassone was killed with a single gunshot to his chest while handing over the money to his assailant who entered his shop just under the Regional Road bridge.
The murder had shocked many who knew Vittorio Cassone, who had won quite a reputation for himself, as he was amongst the first on the island who sold traditional fresh Sicilian produce.
Sources close to the police have confirmed that the investigations into the murder case took a new turn during these last few weeks, to the extent that there is enough evidence to prosecute the alleged suspect.
