Silvio Parnis fined for unethical programme

The Broadcasting Authority has ruled that programmes presented by Labour MP Silvio Parnis’s tear-jerking M’Intix Wahdek broadcast on Smash TV in March and June were unethical in exposing minor victims of sexual abuse and of stripping people with disabilities of their dignity through the unethical use of the camera focus.
The station was fined Lm200 to be paid within a month for breaching the authority’s guidelines on vulnerable people on the media.
Parnis also failed to involve the state social work agency Appogg, which is meant to monitor the participation of children in television programmes. He also failed to seek professional advice both before and during the programme.
