First step to privatise Tug Malta
The process of selling the government’s shareholding in Tug Malta has got underway. 73.2 per cent of shareholding has seen the interest of 11 highly reputable companies in towage and salvage operations have signed a confidential agreement with the Privatisation Unit and collected the Request for Proposals document.
MIITS chairman steps down
MITTS chairman and chief executive David Spiteri Gingell resigned from his post. Minister Austin Gatt who relied to a parliamentary question put to him by Labour MP Leo Brincat, praised Spiteri Gingell and said that his contribution to the country was “enormous”.
Hold-Up in B’Kara

Murder suspect denied bail
Carmel Camilleri, who stands charged with the murder of Baron Francis Sant-Cassia in 1988 was denied bail for the third consecutive time.
Landowner wins Lm100,000 damages
The government was ordered to pay almost Lm100,000 in damages to a land owner, after a judge found that she had been illegally deprived of her property.
Charged with raping daughter
A 27 year-old man from Floriana was remanded in custody after being charged with violently raping his eight year-old daughter. He was also charged with corrupting a three-year old girl.

PM presents Budget for 2007
Prime Minister and Finance Minister Lawrence Gonzi presented his third budget to Parlaiment. While announcing adjustments to the current tax-bands making low and middle-class earners beneficiares, the Prime Minister listed what he defined as record economic achievements by his government throughout this year.
Budget “weak” for Alfred Sant
Labour leader Alfred Sant labelled the budget as “weak,”. Addressing the media shortly after the Prime Minister ended his two hour speech to Parlaiment, Alfred Sant chose to once again criticise official statistics.
Constituded bodies “satisfied”
The main constituted bodies expressed themselves “satisfied” at the budget. The Chamber of Commerce, MEA, FOI and MHRA stated that the budget reflected their
recommendations.

Brothers jailed for raping boys
Dennis and Anthony Pandolfino were jailed 10 years each by a criminal court at the end of a trial by jury in which the two brothers were found guilty of raping two young boys who were entrusted to them.
Gozo priest linked to US congressman
Fr. Anthony Mercieca from Gozo has been named as the priest who allegedly molested a disgraced US Congresman Mark Foley as a boy, while the priest was serving in America. The case suddenly took international limelight.
Gozo response team to investigate
The Gozo Curia announced that Bishop Mario Grech has instructed a Response Team to investigate the allegations.

PM in Finland
Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi travelled to Lahti, Finland and attended an informal European Council meeting organised by the Finnish Presidency of the EU. The meeting discussed energy and immigration issues.
Miami Archdiocese appeals to possible victims
The Archdiocese of Miami has asked any possible victims of inappropriate behaviour or abuse by 72 year-old Fr. Anthony Mercieca, a Gozitan priest to come forward or contact a law enforcement agency.
BirdLife judicial protest
BirdLife Malta filed a judicial protest against environment Minister George Pullicino, Police Commissioner John Rizzo and Mepa, over a police memorandum instructing officers not to book but not immediately charge hunters over breaking certain hunting laws.
Diver dies in Cirkewwa
A British diver lost his life in Cirkewwa. John Foulkes, 56 of Kent died as he suddenly surfaced in distress while diving with friends.
