Monday, November 6

Two Italians die in plane crash
Two Italian men died tragically when a Piper PA-31T plane they were steering en-route from Malta to Milan crashed near Piacenza, Italy.

Slow start for Park & Ride
There was a slow start to the government incentivised Park & Ride scheme. A few dozen cars were spotted parked throughout the day, while government said it was considering it as a “soft opening”.

Arson at university
Flames engulfed a storeroom wthin the university’s biochemistry department. Nobody was hurt in the blaze, while investigators point fingers towards arsonists.

Bones found off Delimara
Bones retrieved from the seabed off Delimara coast, are likely to be animal and not human. It was initially suspected that the remains belonged to Brian Rosso, who was murdered last year and whose corpse was allegedly thrown at sea.

Tuesday, November 7

Charged with Vittorio Cassone’s murder
Prison inmate Melchior Spiteri who has been convicted a number of times over a spate of offences including murder, was charged with the murder of Italian chef Vittorio Cassone. The murder was committed almost 14 years ago.

Five plead guilty to porn film of minor
Five men, aged between 18 and 49 admitted to their involvement in filming and circulating pornographic images of a 16 year old girl in Luqa and Hamrun this year. The case was revealed by sister paper ‘illum’ on it’s first publication.

Former Air Malta employee was ‘Al Qaeda’ boss
34-year old Briton Dhiran Barot – a former Air Malta ticketing clerk at Air Malta’s Regent Street offices in London – was jailed for a minimum 40 years by a British court, after finding him guilty of conspiracy to a series of terrorist plots for ‘Al Qaeda’. The plans were thwarted by the MI5 following months of surveillance.
Wednesday, November 8

L-Imniehru’ charged with threatening MP’s
Convicted drug trafficker Mario Camilleri, known as l-Imniehru was charged for having threatened labour MP’s Anglu Farrugia and Jose’ Herrera. The two were allegedly threatened over their stand against a cleaning contract given to his Camilleri’s wife and son by the law courts.

Taxidermists arrested
Two taxidermists were arrested after police found a number of carcasses of protected birds in their possession.

Thursday, November 9

Gas man robbed in Attard
A gas delivery man was robbed of his takings while delivering gas cylinders in Mdina Street, Attard.

Jailed for stealing crucifix
Charles Spiteri, 41 of Zabbar was jailed for three months after he was found guilty of stealing a Lm32 crucifix. A jail term was imposed as the Court said Spiteri was given enough chances to reform himself.
Friday, November 10

Malta advanced in Euro preparations
The European Commission praised Malta’s preparations towards the adoption of the Euro in January 2008, however a Gallup-poll survey revealed that only 48 per cent of the Maltese said that they were informed about the changeover.

Former PN MP Herman Farrugia dies
Former Nationalist MP Herman Farrugia died aged 72. A popular family doctor in Floriana, Valletta and Hamrun, Herman Farrugia served as an MP from 1971 to 1992.

Man injured in fall
A worker was hospitalised after falling off a scaffolding during works in St. Christopher’s street in Valletta.
