It seems that a cost effective way of marketing Malta as a tourist destination has for one reason or another has been neglected or ignored. The present available webcams in Valley Road, Spinola Bay, Msida Marina, Tower Road, Sliema and Ghajnsielem are not only poorly situated, but they are also wrongly labeled and badly maintained.
Webcams about Malta should show a sunny impression with lots of life. A good impression of worthwhile sights in Malta could be: the Grand Harbour with a view of the fantastically restored waterfront, the Palace in Valletta, Piazza Regina, the bastions amd the gardens on Sliema’s Tower Road.
As a part of the Brand Malta campaign, Malta should advertise its sunny face, so important especially now in winter when many European countries see so little of the sun. Positioning the webcams (if possible rotating) showing maximum sunlight is imperative.
An eye-catching feature of a webcam would be the camera showing people walking, shopping, sipping coffee, a simply busy and attractive image and not a lifeless image. A rotating camera would improve its marketing value.
For website designers it is easy to have such a webcam picture incorporated as a standard window which is preferable to a link as its shows Sunny Malta as a standard feature.
For companies like Air Malta and Visit Malta, as well our embassies and government, a home page with such a window is simply a must.
May I invite our active Minister for Tourism Francis Zammit Dimech to use existing resources and stakeholders to enable prospective visitors to see our sunny side?
