How to destroy our Gozitan patrimony

I am writing with regard to the recently launched ‘34U’ – Tree For You campaign, appealing to Maltese and Gozitans to invest in the environment by planting a tree. Notably, this initiative is supported by the Bishop of Gozo too.
It is ironic therefore, that the same Church authorities and local politicians are forcing MEPA to permit the construction of a second cemetery in Nadur, directly above a unique aquifer. This would result in the contamination of natural spring waters which presently nourish 5,000 organically produced citrus trees, ranging from lemon, oranges, sweet lime, tangerine and mandarin which grace the whole valley leading to Ramla Bay.
The local farmers appreciate the support from Alternattiva Demokratika, whose leader Dr Harry Vassallo has already stated that they have not been given a fair hearing by MEPA and that the destruction is evidence of environmental insensitivity which should be institutionally addressed by the Church in Gozo.
Would it not be better if the Bishop of Gozo, the Mayor of Nadur and the Minister set an example themselves before preaching to others? Would it not be better to likewise take care of the patrimony we have already inherited from our ancestors?
