Somebody could be about to get their cheapest flight ever. And that’s because Ryanair flight 9993 to Pisa, leaving Malta the 15 February 2007, is net of the hefty EUR46.57 in government taxes.
MaltaToday first managed to clinch a cheap passage to Pisa on Thursday morning through the Ryanair website by booking two single tickets, instead of a return trip. While the return trip flying on the 15 February and returning on the 22 February cost a full EUR107.75 – which included EUR9 for carrying one piece of luggage both ways, and a EUR5 credit card fee (EUR2.50 both ways) – the two single trips were cheaper at EUR95.62, because no passenger service, insurance and wheelchair levy were being charged on the Pisa-Malta one-way ticket.
That knocked off over EUR7 from the ticket, apart from the fact that the single Pisa-Malta ticket at EUR0.01 was cheaper than the EUR2.49 on the return leg of the Malta-Pisa-Malta trip.
But on Friday afternoon, the Malta-Pisa-Malta return trip became even cheaper – EUR56.53 – once again booked for the same dates. Unexplainably, the Malta-Pisa trip carried none of the hefty government taxes. Instead the tax component was just EUR23.57, which is made up of airport tax, the passenger charge, and the insurance and wheelchair levy.
That’s including the credit card processing fee, which is EUR2.50 each way of the flight. Passengers using a Visa Electron debit card do not get charged processing fees.
Watch our for those internet glitches!
