Government is holding back information about the termination benefits of executive chairpersons appointed with government entities in cases of a change in government.
Despite a request and various follow-ups sent to the Office of the Prime Minister since 22 November, government has so far kept back the information as a majority of executive chairpersons have invoked the data protection law not to disclose details of their contracts, despite their public nature and the fact that they are political appointees.
The Prime Minister’s Press Secretary said the office of the prime minister was still awaiting replies from most of the chairpersons, adding that it would be very unlikely they would accept to divulge their pay packets.
MaltaToday requested to know how many and which government-appointed executive chairpersons had a parachute clause in their contracts that would come into effect with a change in government. It also asked for the amounts stipulated when such clauses come into force.
