Milan-magic night at Ta’ Qali
Thousands of Maltese thronged every inch of Ta’ Qali National Stadium to watch Italy’s AC Milan play in a friendly against Malta champions B’Kara FC. The locals, though defeated to a 5-0 result were jubilant just the same, as having played a historic match with a number of world-class players. The game ended a week-long winter training camp for AC Milan who were followed by hundreds of supporters everywhere they went.

Dun Gorg on the way to sainthood
The Congregation for Sainthood Causes in Rome has approved a second miracle that should lead to the canonisation of the Blessed Gorg Preca, founder of MUSEUM. The decision was announced by the Curia that explained a decision was taken following a discussion held at the Apostolic Palace in the Vatican led by Cardinal Josè Saraiva Martins.
Police investigate dog killings
Gozo police are investigating the horrifying slaughter of three pure-bred Klieb tal-Fenek on a farm in the outskirts of Xewkija. The dogs were found hanging lifeless from a steel beam in a farmyard by their master, a local farmer. The news led to national outrage, with animal-rights activist calling for stiffer penalties for all those prosecuted on cruelty.

GWU-UHM confront Maltacom over restructuring
GWU and UHM have expressed their concerns with Maltacom Group over the methods of restructuring that are currently being adopted. The telecoms commercial division employees were reportedly asked to re-apply for their jobs, and when selected be given a six month probation period.
Brothers fined Lm750 for assaulting surgeon
Carmelo Micallef, 52 of Luqa and his brother Louis, 58 of Luqa were fined Lm750 after admitting to assaulting and slightly injuring surgeon Alex Manchè. The brothers admitted to assaulting the well-known surgeon after he told them to refrain from smoking in hospital. The surgeon forgave his assailants and expressed disappointment that the matter was taken to court by the police. He also offered his condolences to the Micallefs.

Man charged with defiling daughter
A 53-year old man was charged with defiling his nine-year old daughter told a court that it was an allegation made-up by his estranged wife in order to get back at him. While lawyer Edward Gatt pointed out to the Court that his client was a victim to untrue allegations, the accused shouted his innocence to the presiding Magistrate.

MTA and NSO react on statistics accusations
The Malta Tourism Authority and the National Statistics Office have categorically denied having met and discussed revising the 2006 tourism data. In a joint statement, the NSO and MTA denied allegations made by a section of the media over the past few days.
