In his article in The Times (Smart be it, January 31), Investments and IT minister Austin Gatt included a picture of how the Ricasoli industrial estate looks today – a derelict place. He suggested that this “before picture” be kept by those who read the article, “since it will soon be a historical photograph”.
May I suggest to those readers who may have photographs of how Sliema and St Julian’s looked “before” and how they look “today”, after almost 20 years of Nationalist government, to ask the editor to publish them and solicit a comment from minister Austin Gatt. Sliema and St Julian’s were once “Smart Cities” too. Don’t those towering blocks of concrete look “smart”, Dr Gatt?
