Gingell’s genius or How to destroy a historical building
Mr Peter Gingell (29 April, 2007) gave your readers a very good idea on how to demolish any building which has historical value.
Let’s say the historical building is Building A. Adjacent to it is Building B, which has no historical value. Buy both buildings, but apply for a permit only for Building B. Once you get the commitment of MEPA on Building B, then apply for a permit to demolish Building A. Although Building A has historical value, MEPA will still issue the permit, because of the commitment on Building B, which has no historical value.
This is pure genius! Thanks a lot, Mr Gingell. You have spelt out the way to destroy all the architectural gems of Malta.
Of course, Mr Gingell’s letter means that the beautiful houses in St Paul’s and Cathedral Street in Sliema, mentioned in your paper, will be demolished. This is a scandal.
