Labour leader Alfred Sant yesterday reiterated his promise to remove VAT on computers and IT equipment for school children if his party is elected to government.
Speaking at the Megabyte factory at the Mosta Technopark, Sant said a Labour government would enter into public-private partnerships with IT training providers so that courses could be offered to everyone to make information technology accessible to all.
Sant said his party had no intention of turning IT into a partisan football and expressed his willingness to cooperate on improving the sector in the same way as government and opposition worked to strengthen the financial services industry.
“Our plan is to have IT in our culture,” Sant said. “Our measures are not a temporary political gimmick. We want broadband internet to be available to everyone on a permanent basis.”
