Foundation works for the two proposed MIDI towers at Tigne point, Sliema, was carried out without a permit.
MEPA issued a stop notice against the illegal works two months ago, but the enforcement order is now awaiting an application by the developers to sanction the illegal works carried out so far.
The two towers, one rising to 14 storeys and the other rising to 12 storeys are still awaiting MEPA’s final approval.
If approved the towers will complete the transfiguration of Tigne from a low rise residential area, to Malta’s nearest equivalent to Manhattan.
MEPA has already approved the Fort Cambridge development, which is set to rise 20 storeys. and is also considering the 32-storey proposed Town Square development next to Villa Drago.
The entire Tigne project, which includes the two towers, was given preliminary approval through an outline development planning permit. But works can only start after a full permit is issued.
