Minister mum over inquiry into bullets at Magistrates’ Court

The Minster for Justice and Home Affairs Carmelo Mifusd Bonnici has refused to comment over the harrowing discovery of five bullets inside the Law Courts last Thursday.
Sister newspaper Illum revealed on Sunday that the bullets were found in a corner, next to the door of Hall 9.
A police official noticed the five unused bullets on the floor. A magisterial inquiry was ordered immediately afterwards.
Questions remain unanswered as to whether the bullets were placed there as a threatening warning to a magistrate.
Hall 9 is occupied by Magistrate Audrey Demicoli, but it has yet to be established whether this case could be directly linked with any of her magisterial duties.
Contacted by MaltaToday, the justice minister said little about the incident, currently under an inquiry led by Magistrate Tonio Micallef Trigona. “One needs to await the conclusions of this inquiry,” Mifsud Bonnici said.
The minister did not answer questions as to why he did not give out a press conference on the incident, or when he was informed about the incident.
The minister also declined from saying whether he would be launching a separate, internal inquiry on how the bullets found their way part the security system at the law courts. He did not comment either on whether he felt it necessary to re-evaluate the security system screening in the Courts.

Mintoffianism rules, OK

As former Prime Minister Karmenu Mifsud Bonnici picked up Dom Mintoff’s Human Rights Award from Ghaddafi last Saturday, Infrastructure Minister Austin Gatt was busy reminding us all that the 92-year-old firebrand’s legacy is still alive and well, and currently residing in Castille.
