Open Your Eyes

The birth of a newspaper in a very competitive media market such as is Malta and Gozo is easier said than done. MaltaToday is over three years old. It was born as a Friday newspaper in November 1999 with the undeclared mission statement of being there where others would not dare tread.
The investors, creators and journalists who participate daily in preparing its content owe much of their stamina, direction, journalistic and debating endurance to their dreams, free spirit and independent nature.
A newspaper requires constant and serious preparation and discipline, but after the initial birth pangs it is clear that MaltaToday is here to stay. Cultivating a readership thirsty for the stories has not been easy.
Yet, MaltaToday is today the staple Sunday morning diet for thousands of Maltese and Gozitan readers, not to mention the late-comers on the internet edition. ‘Open your eyes’ is a campaign unabashedly aimed at reaching out to a new kind of reader. The ones who have not as yet discovered that something fresh, direct and valuable in content is being published.
To decide to receive the incisive news in MaltaToday should not be based on an ideological or a politically driven stimulus.
It goes beyond that. To be investigative, questioning and debate oriented follows the genre of Western styled journalism of the Fleet Street kind.
MaltaToday is launching its ‘Open your eyes’ campaign and as a newspaper it too needs to open its eyes to the far wider aspects in the public domain; namely the untold human stories and dramas unfolding silently in our midst. This is MaltaToday and we intend to be at the heart of the nation’s pulse.
