Ħal Kirkop to host Irkottafest 2014

Event to host music, traditional crafts and demonstrations.

The fifth edition of Irkottafest will be held in Ħal Kirkop on 11 May celebrating the product and the traditions surrounding it.

The Ħal Kirkop local council will be the main organiser of this event, with the participation of local non-governmental organisations, in an effort to bring to life village traditions and crafts.

Activities will include farm tours, where the process of milk production will be explained, as well as demonstrations of how ricotta was and is made by village residents. Visitors can sample the freshly made ricotta and try their hand at making it at home with the help of recipes available at information stands.

Irkottafest would not be complete if this important ingredient is not used to enrich various traditional Maltese dishes. Food stalls will exhibit and sell products prepared with irkotta such as - qassatat, pastizzi, pies, soups, pasta, cannoli and other cuisine.

Entertainment on the day will include Maltese folklore, traditional music, local talent and band marches. Żurrieq Scouts Pipes & Drums, Salvu Tanti and Friends, Abstract Acoustic Duo, Xarulu’ Acoustic Duo, Cheeramigos, Kor L-Għanja tal-Poplu and Danusan will be participating.

This cultural activity will be held on Sunday 11 May, 2014 from 10.00am onwards along Triq San Benedittu, Misraħ Ħal Kirkop and Misraħ San Leonardu.
