Alfred Mizzi Foundation to support programme of free historical lectures

The Alfred Mizzi Foundation is supporting the Malta Historical Society (MHS) programme of monthly lectures (2014-2015), which are always free and open to the public.

Derek Vella, on behalf of the Foundation, presented a sponsorship grant to the President of the Malta Historical Society, Judge Giovanni Bonello. The presentation was held in the main hall of the Maritime Museum in Vittoriosa, just before the lecture by Caroline Tonna on 'Painters and Photographers'.

Vella spoke about the extension of the Foundation's support for the activities of the Society, which not only are of great academic merit but importantly, provide knowledge to the many who attend them.

The Malta Historical Society was founded in 1950 and since then has contributed extensively through its activities and publications to the study of the history of Malta, the diffusion of its knowledge, and the safeguarding of Maltese historical heritage.

Next year, 2015, will mark the first centenary of operations for Alf Mizzi & Sons Ltd, the parent company of The Alfred Mizzi Foundation. Aside from its economic contribution to Malta over these past decades, Alf Mizzi & Sons Ltd - particularly through the Alfred Mizzi Foundation - have also made an important contribution to the social and cultural spheres. The continued support for the Malta Historical Society is a prime example of this civic commitment.
