Science behind technology

There will be something for all everyone: documentaries, quizzes, demonstrations, educational activities, plays and dancing.

"Imagine a world where everything is connected to the Internet. Imagine a house that's always gossiping with itself, your lamp talks to your fridge, your air conditioner knows your favourite temperature," said TechLab coordinator Conrad Attard and artistic director of iCreatemotion. These ideas will come to life at the TechLab

"Visitors will have the opportunity to engage with young scientists, and discover how technology is helping them achieve their daily goals. They will find some of today's modern gadgets and techniques, robots designed for war games, and other innovations," said Attard.

At the event's heart will be an art installation modern 3D interpretation of Valletta.  "Come to the TechLab and restore a historic painting," said Attard.  Nearby, visitors can experience a virtual Planetarium guided a team of astrophysicists and technologists (University of Malta). TechLab attempts to take audiences through a journey to see how technology transforms the way things work.

TechLab team consists of Angele Galea (presenter and theatrical coordinator), Perit Arielle Abdilla, Aaron Mercieca (video editor) Francesca Aquilina (photographer and animator) and Sarah Kurvinen (choreographer).  Technologists and artists from ICTSA, IEEE, UESA, Microsoft Imagine Cup, Atelier del Restauro and SACES will also be present at the stand to enlighten and entertain.

TechLab is being supported by iCreatemotion, Microsoft Innovation Center, Vodafone, MITA, RS2, Institute of Computer Education, MEUSAC, Computime, Eurocraft part of Attard Bros, Arco Design Studio and IEEE. To know more about the event visit http://techlab.icreatemotion.com (site will upload soon)

As part of the pan-European Researchers' Night, Science in the City offers a direct public involvement and emphasizes fun engagement over a broad range of topics and researchers.

The "Researchers' Night - Science in the City" festival is organised by a consortium of national organisations that is led by the University of Malta Research Trust, and the Malta Chamber of Scientists. The partners are MCST, Where's Everybody Ltd, Valletta Local Council, MEUSAC, the Public Broadcasting Services Ltd, MCAST, iCreatemotion, the European Commission Representation in Malta, the Malta Council for Culture and the Arts, Notte Bianca, Valletta 2018 Foundation, Malta Chamber of Pharmacists, King's Own Philharmonic Society and St James Cavalier. The project is supported by the Parliamentary Secretariat for Research, Innovation, Youth and Sports, Vodafone and Microsoft Innovation Centre.

The festival is co-funded by a competitive award from the EU's FP7 Programme and the Malta Arts Fund.
