airX adding more aircraft to the Maltese register

The private air charter company airX has announced that it will be adding more aircraft to the Maltese register in the next few months.

The announcement was made by airX Chairman Mr John B Matthews during a press conference held at the AFM Air Wing Division in connection with the airX Malta International Airshow 2013.

"We're living in very exciting times as Malta continues to develop its aviation industry and its aviation register. One third of the aircraft we operate are already registered in Malta and we plan to increase registration to at least 50% within a few months," explained Mr Matthews.

The press conference was also addressed by the Minister for Tourism Hon. Karmenu Vella, Aviation Society President Mr Joe Ciliberti, and representatives of the Armed Forces of Malta, Malta International Airport and AirMalta.

Referring to the recent announcement by Tourism Minster Karmenu Vella that a White Paper on Malta's new aviation policy will be presented shortly, Mr Matthews said that airX welcomes this development, adding that the company looks forward to this White Paper and to a strong policy coming to life for the best interest of the industry.

"We believe that Malta's success in the maritime industry can be mirrored in the aviation industry and we're here to support the government in its efforts to position Malta as a service leader in this sector and in establishing Malta as a hub and a bridge to North Africa" he said.

The airX Chairman added that his company's commitment to assist in the development of the aviation industry in Malta was not just a verbal commitment but a firm pledge. "Our sponsorship agreement with the Malta Aviation Society is a clear undertaking in supporting the development of the aviation industry in Malta," said Mr Matthews.

He went on to explain that the airX crew and staff act as the country's ambassadors on a daily basis during the execution of their duties with foreign clients, aviation brokers and key international industry players. "We're very happy in our new Head Office in Vittoriosa and our long-term plans will see us expanding our operations in Malta as the company continues to grow," Mr Matthews said.

airX will recruit more Maltese cabin crew and back office staff and will also forge ahead with its plans to establish an apprenticeship scheme for Maltese young people interested in taking up a career in aviation as pilots, offering free pilot tuition and a paid work experience with the company.

Mr Matthews thanked the Organising Committee of the airX Malta International Airshow 2013 and the Malta Aviation Society for their hard work in promoting aviation in Malta.
