Malta Philharmonic Orchestra takes centre stage at annual Joseph Calleja concert

Antonello Venditti, Suzanne Vega, Red Electrick and Destiny join Maltese tenor Joseph Calleja on stage for a night of superb music

Thousands gathered at the Granaries in Floriana last night for the annual summer concert with ‘the Maltese Tenor’, Joseph Calleja.

It was a night of opera and pop music which brought memories to many as internationally-renowned singer-songwriters Antonello Venditti and Suzanne Vega took to the stage. With songs such as Venditti’s ‘In questo mondo di ladri’ and Vega’s ‘Tom’s Diner’, the artists had the audience clapping and singing along.

Red Electrick and young Destiny brought the audience to their feet after an impeccable performance by the 14-year-old junior Euro song winner and the band’s rocking duo with Calleja.

All artists were accompanied by the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, under the direction of Mro Steven Mercurio, which has repeatedly proven to be the real protagonist of the summer concert. The artists were also accompanied by the BOV Joseph Calleja Children’s Choir under the direction of Gillian Zammit.

The political class had a good time too:
