Sfilata taking over Valletta as part of V18 creative programme

A parade, Sfilata fil-Kapitali, will be the ubiquitous festivity in Valletta this Saturday as 3,000 animal puppets, 18 local band clubs, 360 dancers and hundreds of others will take over the capital's streets

As part of the Valletta 2018 programme 'Sfilata fil-Kapitali' will employ 3,000 animal puppets, 18 local band clubs, 360 dancers and hundreds of other participants this Saturday for a show that includes music, dance, storytelling events. The Sfilata is an initiative by Orfeo u Majnun, an interdisciplinary project consisting of workshops and collaborations for Valletta 2018 and co-funded by the Creative Europe Programme of the EU.

The show will start at 2pm and will run until late, culminating in a party event at Triton Square from 9.30pm onwards. The shows will include the participation of known personalities including those from Min Imissu, Klassi Ghalina and the Kinetic Dance Academy.

Over the past few months, workshops were held in several communities across Malta and Gozo for the creation of thousands of puppets of all sizes. These take the shape, mostly, of mythic animals and will be used as part of the animation in Valletta this evening.

The Sfilata fil-Kapitali is also sponsoring alternative means of transport as special rates for Nextbike and Tallinja Bikes will be applicable for commuters using these services to join the event.
