Radisson Blu Resort’s chief operating officer Raphael Cauchi is to head the Island Hotels Group’s Costa Coffee franchise in Spain.

The Coffee Company Malta was awarded the right to develop the Costa Coffee brand in Spain, now with Cauchi heading the venture as CEO of Coffee Company Spain Limited.

“This is an exciting move for the Group and myself,” Cauchi said. “We intend to open six Costa Coffee Outlets within our territory by the end of 2014 and a total of 75 outlets by the end of 2019. I’m confident that Costa Coffee will be as well received in Spain as it was in Malta and I look forward to this new challenge.”

Cauchi joined Island Hotels Group in 1997 before the opening of Radisson Blu Resort, St Julian’s responsible for the setting up of the food and beverage department. This was followed by a promotion to General Manager of the resort.

In 2005 he was appointed Pre-Opening General Manager of the Radisson Blu Resort & Spa Golden Sands, a role which he occupied until April 2010. During this period Cauchi was also operations director at the Radisson Blu in Brussels.

In April 2010 he was promoted to COO responsible for Radisson Blu Resort, St. Julian’s, The Coastline Hotel and Island Caterers Limited.
