Over 1 million travelled between Malta and Gozo in second quarter

In the second quarter, sea transport between Malta and Gozo registered increases compared to the corresponding period last year.

A total of 1,207,361 commuters travelled between Malta and Gozo during the second quarter this year, up by 4.9 per cent when compared to the corresponding period in 2013.

The highest number was recorded in May, with 416,710 commuters, or 34.5 per cent of the total for the quarter. The number of vehicles carried by scheduled vessels increased by 8.5 per cent, to 318,514.

The number of trips in the quarter under review stood at 4,822, an increase of 0.6 per cent over the corresponding period in 2013. The majority of trips took place in May, with 34.0 per cent of the total for the quarter.
