Two companies to negotiate opening of two casinos

Eden Leisure Group Limited and Dragonara Gaming Limited have been identified as the two preferred bidders for the operation of two new casinos in Malta.

The government’s privitisation unit has identified Eden Leisure Group Limited and Dragonara Gaming Limited as the two companies who will open two new casinos in Malta. This follows a competitive process that started with a call for proposals on 31 July, 2013.

While a report from the evaluations and adjudications committee placed Eden Leisure Group as the favourite bidder and Dragonara Gaming Limited as the second favourite, the government decided to negotiate with both companies and plans to award a concession to each of them.

“The government is sending out a clear message that it will continue working to strengthen the fast economic rhythm that Malta has caught,” Economy Minister Chris Cardona said, adding that Malta has registered the highest rate of economic growth in the EU. “The government is optimistic that, thanks to this decision and others that will be announced in the coming days, Malta’s economic prospects will keep improving, as was recently confirmed by credit-rating agency Moody’s.”
