10,006 increase in fulltime workers in 20 months

‘More jobs were created under 20 months of a Labour government compared with the last term of the previous administration’ – government

The number of fulltime workers in October 2014 was 6,094 higher when compared with the same month the previous year.

In a statement, the government said that the number of fulltime jobs increased by an average of 17 per day or three times as much the rate of job creation observed under the PN administration.

The government said there was an increase of 10,006 fulltime workers since March 2013 while the increase registered under the Nationalist administration’s last term was of 10,629.

“The number of fulltime jobs created during these 20 months almost reaches the total number of jobs created by the PN administration,” the government said.

It said that the biggest increases were registered in administrative service, technical and professional services, and information and communication services.

Increases were registered in retail, financial services and gaming.

Fulltime positions increased by 250 in manufacturing and construction.

“When one considers the effect of the 700 Arriva workers, who switched from private to public enrolment when Arriva left Malta, the increase in fulltime workers in the private sector at the beginning of this year reached 4,512.”
