Eden Leisure signs 10-year agreement with IHG for Holiday Inn Express

Work underway for completion of Holiday Inn hotel in St George's Bay by December 2015

The Eden Leisure Group has signed a 10-year contract with InterContinental Hotel Group to open a Holiday Inn Express Hotel in Malta.

The Eden Leisure Group recently announced the purchase of the Giorgianis Hostel adjacent to the InterContinental Malta. The existing hostel is being demolished and in its place will stand a 100-room Holiday Inn Express which will be operated by the InterContinental Hotels Group.

“The benefit will be that of a high quality 3 star hotel with the strength of an international brand. This new hotel will have all the mod cons expected nowadays such as free WiFi, and a green environment, however it will focus more on quality accommodation, staff and the general experience of the time spent here,” Eden Leisure said in a statement.

The hotel is being targeted to the discerning business and leisure traveller, who will benefit from the synergies with Eden Leisure’s existing businesses. The two hotels, Holiday Inn Express and the InterContinental Malta will be linked from within, allowing for access to the existing car park for deliveries and collections as well as for the staff coming to work. This will significantly reduce the traffic on the street and allow for cost efficiencies within the Group.

“We believe that providing 3-star accommodation will allow us to cater to all levels of tourist – those who wish to pay less but want a comfortable, pleasant experience can enjoy the Holiday Inn facilities, whereas those wanting to spend more for added luxury, comfort and facilities, can enjoy 5-star accommodation at the InterContinental Malta,” Eden Leisure Group chairman, Ian De Cesare stated.

“In addition, those wanting that super exclusive experience can enjoy the brand new luxury suites on the 17th and 18th floor which are also part of our renovation project.”

Work is now underway to demolish the existing hostel and the hotel is scheduled to be completed by December 2015.
