HSBC rated one of the best places for women to work

The UK newspaper recognised HSBC for prioritising gender diversity in its business strategy, according to the annual list jointly published with Opportunity Now, a gender equality campaign from Business in the Community.

HSBC Bank’s commitment to gender diversity has earned it a spot in the global ‘The Times Top 50 Employers for Women 2015’.

The UK newspaper recognised HSBC for prioritising gender diversity in its business strategy, according to the annual list jointly published with Opportunity Now, a gender equality campaign from Business in the Community.

This recognition extends to HSBC Malta, where a number of initiatives to advance women have been set in place, including Banking on Women as well as the recently-launched Arrow programme.

Diversity experts assessed employers on their ability to demonstrate best practice in a number of areas including, organisational target setting, holding leaders and managers to account, changing culture through initiatives such as unconscious bias training, and integrating workforce metrics into planning processes and strategy. Entries were open to any employer around the world with UK presence.

As part of the entry process, HSBC showed how it promotes gender equality – both internally and externally – as part of its commitment to diversity and inclusion.

HSBC Malta head of Human Resources Mandy Garner said: "While we are making progress on gender equality in the workplace, we still have work to do, particularly in the representation of women at senior levels of HSBC. Our Arrow programme is one of the things we are doing to help more female junior managers advance to senior roles."

HSBC regularly raises awareness globally by encouraging colleagues to 'connect with difference' around gender diversity. Most recently, events were held across the organisation for International Women's Day in March, while an HSBC NOW TV special edition looked at gender diversity from male, female and transgender perspectives to show why it is an important issue for all employees and a priority for the Bank.
